Allmendinger, Kaulig Racing to attempt Cup Series Daytona road course race

A.J. Allmendinger will be attempting a return to the NASCAR Cup Series with Kaulig Racing at the Daytona Road Course (Feb. 21 at 3 p.m. ET; TV: FOX, Radio: MRN, SiriusXM NASCAR Radio).
Allmendinger will pilot a No. 16 Chevrolet — an open entry — as he attempts to make his first Cup start since 2018.
“I am really looking forward to racing in the Cup Series once again, but more importantly, I am pumped to be racing in the Cup Series for Kaulig Racing,” said Allmendinger. “I keep wanting to help Kaulig Racing grow as much as possible, and the next step is racing in some Cup races with them. Daytona is a prestigious race track to compete at, whether you are on the oval or road course, so this is a great place for Kaulig Racing’s first non-superspeedway Cup race.”
Allmendinger is already scheduled to run the full NASCAR Xfinity Series season in a No. 16 Chevrolet for Kaulig Racing. Allmendinger has won three races with Kaulig Racing, including two road course wins.
Kaulig Racing has also entered their No. 16 Chevrolet into the Daytona 500 with Kaz Grala as their driver. The team is expected to run other superspeedway and road course races during the 2021 Cup season with further details yet TBA.
