Austin Cindric earns eighth career pole

AVONDALE, Ariz. — For just the sixth time in 2021, the NASCAR Xfinity Series featured qualifying with Austin Cindric winning the pole for the Xfinity Series Championship Race at Phoenix Raceway Saturday.

Cindric, the defending series champion, earned his first pole of 2021 and eighth pole of his career, tying him for 42nd all-time with Jason Leffler and Ricky Stenhouse Jr. on the series’ all-time poles list.

Daniel Hemric, Noah Gragson, and A.J. Allmendinger — all Xfinity Series championship contenders — will start fourth, seventh and 12th respectively.

The last race to feature qualifying was the Indianapolis Grand Prix in August.

Other pole winners this season include Kyle Busch (2), A.J. Allmendinger (1), Riley Herbst (1) and Ty Gibbs (1).
