Blaney goes back-to-back in New Hampshire with his Dollar Tree 301 win

LOUDON, N.H. —  Ryan Blaney delivers a second consecutive NASCAR Cup Series win at New Hampshire in the Dollar Tree 301.

This is his third win of the season and now his 20th career victory in the series.

Blaney qualified inside the top ten from eighth which began his successful defense of his prior New Hampshire victory. But the weather through a wrench into everyone’s plans.

NASCAR moved the start of the race up an hour to no avail. The sheer amount of standing water could not be cleared well enough for the new start time to have an effect.

Ironically, the race finally got going under wet weather conditions around the original scheduled start time and Blaney failed to gain ground. However, the track dried and on lap 40 the field fitted slick tires which renewed the No. 12 team’s confidence.

Blaney went onto finish the first stage one spot higher than he qualified. From the second stage onwards it was all Ryan Blaney. He went onto win the stage, survive multiple restarts, and lead a race-high 115 circuits on his was to victory lane.

The Top Ten

Bubba Wallace finished a close second-place in the Dollar Tree 301. Wallace inched his way from a near two-second deficit in the final 35 laps and ultimately could not challenge his good friend for the race win.

He now has a 75 point gap to the cutline and should breath a little easier heading to Daytona.

Josh Berry continued his amazing stretch of short track race results from third. The Wood Brothers Racing driver led a team best 73 laps at the track as Berry showed his Cup Series worth yet again.

Christopher Bell collected another solid top five run in fourth. After his teammate Chase Briscoe faded late in the race, Bell gained enough points to surpass Briscoe for fifth in the standings.

Kyle Larson earned his seventh career top five finish at New Hampshire in fifth. He was one of six drivers to clinch a spot in the Chase today.

Ty Gibbs already clinched a Chase spot and delivered a solid sixth-place after correcting his tight race car.

Ryan had another amazing day at New Hampshire but, it was not enough to find the points to challenge Denny Hamlin at Daytona. Hamlin clinched the first seed in the Chase and effectively won the regular season title with his seventh-placed run.

Tyler Reddick surprised the garage with his fifth pole of the season after he was near the bottom of the practice charts. The polesitter earned his first top ten since Atlanta in eight.

Ryan Preece found the lead of the race for 17 laps but his strategy was not a race winning one. Still, he collected his seventh top ten of the season from ninth.

Finally, Noah Gragson went from a lap down to the top ten. He collected his first top ten since Talladega in the spring.

Notable Results

Carson Hocevar and Joey Logano both found themselves trapped at least one lap down during the Dollar Tree 301 and rebounded to finish on the lead lap.

Logano gambled with a few other drivers on an early yellow at the start of the final stage and they got it. He maintained his track position to finish 14th and clinched his Chase ticket.

Hocevar had an eventful day. It started before he even took a green flag lap when he spun in the pace laps. Then during the race, he traded plenty of paint with Connor Zilisch and found himself in pretty bad shape after spinning in the middle of the frontstretch.

The team continued to work on the car and Carson got back on the lead lap for his best finish of the month in 19th. He ended up with the fastest lap of the race and, like Logano, he also clinched a Chase spot afterwards.

William Byron clinched a Chase spot despite his good day that went sour. He led during the first stage but an equipment violation and then his ensuing wreck due to a loose wheel relegated him to finish 30th.

Erik Jones topped the charts in practice but his race fell apart with a transaxle issue. He DNF’d in 33rd.

The largest wreck of the race came from Riley Herbst and Connor Zilisch which can be seen below.

Finally, Ross Chastain’s Chase hopes literally went up in smoke as he retired from the race with an engine failure.
