Brent Crews earns first career O’Reilly pole at Naval Base Coronado
CORONADO, CALI. — Brent Crews has captured his first career NASCAR O’Reilly Auto Parts Series pole at Naval Base Coronado for the United Rentals Driven to Serve 250.
This first career pole was not too shocking. Without either Shane van Gisbergen or Connor Zilisch in the race, Crews was the favorite heading into the weekend.

The teenager will look to convert his first pole to his first win later on as he is the current benchmark to beat. His great weekend could lead to his first career NASCAR Cup Series start. He will also be on standby for the injured Christopher Bell in the series. He was able to run a few laps in the No. 20 cup car yesterday and found top twenty speed.
The Viking Motorsports duo impressed in the session. Parker Retzlaff will start on the outside pole in second. Then teammate Anthony Alfredo will start just behind him in third as the team continues to make leaps and bounds in the performance category.
Austin Hill will join the Richard Childress Racing supported duo in the top four form fourth. Carson Kvapil will start from fifth as the highest JR Motorsports driver in the field.
Then the Haas Factory Team duo of Sam Mayer and Sheldon Creed will file off in sixth and seventh.
Austin Green returns to Peterson Motorsports for the road courses. He impressed in every session and will start eighth.
Lastly, William Sawalich and Sammy Smith round out the top ten.
Notable Storylines
The qualifying session had zero stoppages for wrecked cars which was the complete opposite of what the practice session was.
But the primary focus was never on what carnage lied ahead in the session.
Jesse Love and Richard Childress Racing were hit with a huge penalty that barred the team from qualifying. Their lug nuts were too small, and they will also have to serve a pass-through penalty with a loss of stall selection.
Corey Day and Brandon Jones will each have to start in the rear after they turned to a backup car after they each wrecked in practice.
Before the weekend commenced, NASCAR mandated that full-time Truck and Cup Series drivers could not compete in the series. Unlike the Truck Series yesterday, the O’Reilly Series did not pick up the same star power they did.
Even so, all 37 entrants qualified for the historic O’Reilly Series race around the base.
