Briscoe, Herbst get new crew chiefs
KANNAPOLIS, N.C. — Chase Briscoe and Riley Herbst will each go to Nashville Superspeedway with a new crew chief leading their team.
Richard Boswell will replace Johnny Klausmeier as Chase Briscoe’s crew chief. Boswell has been the crew chief of Stewart-Haas Racing’s No. 98 NASCAR Xfinity Series team since 2018.
From 2018-20, they won eight times together – including six wins in 2020 en route to a Championship Four berth.
Davin Restivo will replace Boswell as Riley Herbst’s crew chief. Restivo has been Aric Almirola’s lead engineer since 2022. He also has experience as Cole Custer’s lead engineer in the Xfinity Series in 2019 and the Cup Series in 2020 and 2021.
Restivo also served as an engineer for Chip Ganassi Racing before 2019.
Klausmeier will transition to Stewart-Haas’s vehicle performance group.
“We made these changes in the best interests of the entire organization,” said Greg Zipadelli, SHR’s chief competition officer. “Different people in new positions brings new perspectives. There’s still a lot of racing left to do this year, which means there’s still a lot of opportunity. We need to seize these opportunities and make the most of them, and fresh perspectives from the top of the pit box to the preparation inside the shop will help us do that.”
Briscoe and Herbst are each winless this season. Briscoe is 31st in Cup Series points, 148 points out of a playoff spot with -25 playoff points after a hefty penalty in May.
Herbst is 10th in Xfinity Series points, +27 to the cutline. He has two top-5 finishes and six top-10s but no finishes better than 14th since March 25 at Circuit of the Americas.
