Connor Zilisch to return at Charlotte after back injury

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Connor Zilisch confirmed he will return to NASCAR competition this weekend at Charlotte Motor Speedway after sustaining a back injury.

Zilisch will race Saturday for JR Motorsports in the NASCAR Xfinity Series and Sunday for Trackhouse Racing in the NASCAR Cup Series. Sunday will be the first big test for Zilisch in NASCAR, trying to conquer 400 laps and 600 miles in the Coca-Cola 600.

Zilisch missed one Xfinity Series race — at Texas Motor Speedway — due to a back injury sustained in a crash on the final lap of a race at Talladega Superspeedway last month. NASCAR granted him a waiver, keeping him eligible for the Xfinity Series playoffs and virtually locked in with his win earlier this year at Circuit of the Americas.
