Corey Heim captures second win of the season at Indianapolis

SPEEDWAY, Ind. — Corey Heim outgunned his boss Denny Hamlin on the final restart to win his second race of the season in the Brickyard 400 at Indianapolis Motor Speedway.

This is Heim’s second career NASCAR Cup Series victory and joined A.J. Foyt as the second youngest driver to have two wins in their first 15 races.

Heim qualified sixth and jumped into the top five after the first round of green flag pit stops in the first stage.

After Kyle Larson’s late-stage caution, he took advantage of the shove he gave to the eventual state winner Ty Gibbs to come home second in the one-lap shootout.

Then, Heim continued to run inside the top five throughout the duration of the second stage and earned fifth by the end.

The final stage provided the pivotal moment. Ryan Blaney and John Hunter Nemechek came together into turn three which gave Heim the opportunity to leap from third to the front row on the ensuing restart.

He powered past his boss Denny Hamlin on the outside into turn one and never looked back from there.

Christopher Bell pressured the 23-year-old throughout the whole duration of the final green flag run to the flag. Bell had his run at Heim with under 3 laps remaining, but it did not stick.

Heim leaves Indianapolis with a second win in his previous three starts. Both of his victories have been at marquee events before he even has turned a lap as a full-time Cup Series driver.

The Top Ten

Christopher Bell lived in Corey Heim’s mirror in the final run to the finish. Unfortunately for him, he wound up on the other side of the victory for his sixth runners-up finish of the season.

Joey Logano backed his win from North Wilkesboro with a competitive third place run today. His recent run of good form has brought him to 13th in the regular season standings and nearly a race above the cutline.

The Hoosier, Chase Briscoe was gifted a brick by IMS earlier in the week and the track rewarded him with a top five from fourth.

Then, Denny Hamlin will have to wait another season to add his fourth jewel to his crown. He finished fifth and further extended his point lead to 84 points ahead of Tyler Reddick.

Following Hamlin, Brad Keselowski finished sixth. Then, Josh Berry earned his first top ten since Martinsville from seventh.

Ryan Preece finished two spots below his boss in eighth after his heroic climb from his 34th starting position.

The polesitter Carson Hocevar opted for four tires on the final pit stop and failed to reclaim the track position. He finished ninth.

Finally, Tyler Reddick rounded out the top ten as the regular season championship further slips from his grasp.

Million-Dollar Pickle Man

Todd Gilliland has done it with a 24th-place finish. He defeated Ryan Blaney to win the TNT In-Season Challenge in the NASCAR Cup Series here at Indianapolis Motor Speedway and take the million-dollar bounty for Front Row Motorsports.

Gilliland started the Brickyard 400 from 36th and had a 23-place gap to make up. After the final stage break, it looked all but over for the driver of the No. 34.

But a driver simply can’t face Todd Gilliland in 2026’s edition of the ISC without something going wrong. For his opponent Ryan Blaney, his misfortune bit him with under 40 laps to go.

A debris caution restacked the grid and on the ensuing restart, Blaney found himself on the outside of three-wide into turn three. Three-wide at IMS does not work and he, John Hunter Nemechek, and others found themselves into the outside barriers.

With the splitter damage and worsened track position, Todd Gilliland leapfrogged him to win the In-Season Challenge championship round by two positions.
