Josh Berry scores his best finish of the season at Indianapolis

Amid a miserable season, Josh Berry scored his best finish of the season at Indianapolis.

He finished in seventh, which was his first top 10 finish since Martinsville in March.

Berry sits 33rd in points in what has been a difficult season, after a breakout last year when he scored his first career win at Las Vegas. He’s dealt with five DNFs and only five top 20 finishes on the season.

His third Cup start at Indianapolis however, went better than previous starts at the track. He qualified in 26th, and didn’t get any stage points, but did lead a lap during green flag pit stops.

Berry also had a close call with Zane Smith on the backstretch during stage two. He also made contact with Bubba Wallace on pit road with 44 to go under caution.

He still was able to move up on pit road and restarts to get to seventh. This is also the Wood Brothers’ best ever finish at the Brickyard 400.

Berry is hoping to turn things around throughout the remaining 14 races of the season, and this run could build momentum going into Iowa. His strongsuit is short tracks which make up the next three races. He finished 13th at Iowa, eighth at Richmond, and second at New Hampshire last year.

These next three races could be a chance for Berry to prove he belongs at the Cup level.
