Corey LaJoie to run NASCAR Truck race at Daytona

For the second consecutive year, Corey LaJoie will race in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series season opener at Daytona.

LaJoie will drive the No. 7 Bluegreen Vacations Chevrolet Silverado for Spire Motorsports.

Last year at Daytona, LaJoie led 19 laps, including on what became the final restart before Zane Smith passed him and took the lead when rainfall ended the race after 79 of 100 laps.

“We led the most laps and it rained,” Lajoie added. “I knew the rain was coming – I was trying to play defense – and I just missed covering Zane Smith. That was the difference. I got shuffled out of the lead and it started raining two-three laps later and they called the race. I thought we had a good enough truck to take the win, so I was irritated about that. I’m still irritated about that, so I’m glad I get a chance to do it again this year.”

LaJoie finished 23rd at Daytona. He later finished 16th in May at Daytona in the No. 7 truck.

The No. 7 truck will have an “all-star lineup” in 2024, led by veteran crew chief Brian Pattie.

Last year, Pattie oversaw the No. 51 Kyle Busch Motorsports team with drivers Kyle Busch, William Byron, Matt Mills and Jack Wood.

Busch is slated to make some Truck starts for Spire Motorsports this year.

The season-opening Fresh from Florida 250 will go green just after 7:30 p.m. ET on FS1, MRN and SiriusXM NASCAR Radio.
