Daly, Palou set fastest in Day 2 Indianapolis 500 Practice times

SPEEDWAY, Ind. — Conor Daly and Dreyer Reinbold Racing continue to impress early in the Indianapolis 500 practice week for the NTT INDYCAR Series.

They set the fastest overall speed of 228.080mph which barely eclipsed yesterday’s best, Alex Palou’s 228.026mph.

While the overall top speeds are still ramping up, those two have been tapped as early polesitter favorites.

“Feeling great, but we weren’t even flat on that lap,” Daly said. “The car feels pretty good. It’s going really well. Honestly, it was very exciting out there, too. I saw more side-by-side racing out there on that run than I’ve seen in practice for a long time. It seemed good.”

All 33 cars entered in the event this year combined to turn 2,542 incident-free laps today, a considerable hike from the 1,996 laps recorded on day one.

Alex Palou came into today needing to get more laps under his belt after Monday’s session was mitigated by a potential left-rear fault. He did exactly that as he put in a session-high 118 laps after completing just 28 laps Tuesday.

David Malukas finished the session as the third fastest overall. His 227.139mph speed is still a near full mph under the top two as Team Penske looks for more overall pace.

No other entrants achieved a higher speed than 127mph. But, Graham Rahal, Romain Grosjean, Scott Dixon, and Scott McLaughlin ended the day ahead of the 126mph benchmark respectively.

Andretti Global continues to show their pace on the non-tow leaderboard as their drivers Kyle Kirkwood and Will Power still remain at the top. Marcus Ericsson slid down to fifth overall, though did achieve his best speed of 221.204mph.

Pato O’Ward finished as the day’s best non-two result. His 221.409mph was best for third overall between the two days as his overall speed on the day was only good for 27th.

Finally, Scott McLaughlin’s crew changed his engine overnight which clicked without a hitch. His issue was not the same as his Chevrolet manufacturer teammate Ed Carpenter’s was from the day before.
