Daniel Suarez: NASCAR Cup Chase 2026 Preview

If this was last season, it would have been easy to say Daniel Suarez only achieved his NASCAR Cup Series postseason birth due to his win.

This season, he qualified into the 2026 chase with not only his crown jewel Coca-Cola 600 win but his tremendous consistency as well.

Suarez will enter his third Cup Series postseason and his first since 2024. He clinched the 11th seed after his runners-up result in the regular season finale during the Coke Zero Sugar 400 at Daytona.

The No. 7 Spire Motorsports team ran inside the top ten in points until Sonoma Raceway.

While 11th was not the ideal final seed, the right ingredients has been in place prior to the season.

The Right Ingredients at Spire

Suarez left his most secure NASCAR Cup Series team in Trackhouse Racing at the end of 2025 after they chose to elevate Connor Zilisch to his ride.

From there, he made the jump to the rising Spire Motorsports No. 7 team for 2026 and the partnership immediately had the right ingredients for a successful team.

Daniel saw the potential of the team with the overall investments within the organization and took the calculated risk of taking a ride that had shown its fair share of troubles.

Back-to-back 30-plus point races at Daytona and EchoPark Speedway in Atlanta started the partnership off hot.

Then came the only true bump in their season with a subpar road course race at COTA and the teams only DNF of the season at Phoenix. From there, they persisted inside the top 12 in points with solid starts and finishes.

Obviously, the highlight of their regular season was his third career Cup Series victory from Charlotte. The Coke 600 marked his first victory since Atlanta in 2024 and Spire’s second ever victory.

The right ingredients that came together over the offseason combined with that career defining win set up their 2026 Chase birth. But he will have to accomplish so much more to even have a sniff at a championship this season.

2026 Chase Outlook

In what currently is Daniel Suarez’s best statistical season of his Cup Series career, he enters the Chase as the highest seed he’s achieved so far.

Suarez is the only driver in the Chase to have his average start be nearly identical to his average finish. His 14.4 average start compared to his 15th-best average running and 14.7 average finish cements his top-16 status.

However, even with that, his championship potential lacks strength. Suarez has not won and any one of the Chase tracks the Cup Series will see.

Add on the strength of competition to that fact and his championship path becomes very murky.

What he can accomplish is a return to the top ten in the final standings – a feat he has only done once prior in 2022. For him and his No. 7 team, that should be the bar.
