Good day goes awry for Bubba Wallace at Kansas

Bubba Wallace led laps and picked up nine stage points but had an issue that took him out of a possible win Sunday at Kansas Speedway.

Wallace, the defending winner of the Hollywood Casino 400, placed second to Kyle Larson in stage one.

Wallace ran second to Larson again as his car – until his tire blew in turns one and two on lap 107.

“I got loose three or four laps before and then I blew a tire. You’re never going to blow a tire when you’re running 20th, you always get it running up front,” Wallace said post-race.

The tire failure sent Wallace into the outside wall, breaking his toe link and damaging his car.

In total, he lost six laps getting repairs and never had the same speed.

Bubba Wallace finished 32nd, four laps down – now 14th in points, -19 points to the cutline after Kansas.

The next race is the end of the Round of 16, September 16 at Bristol Motor Speedway. The green flag drops just after 7:30 p.m. ET (Broadcast: USA, SiriusXM NASCAR Radio Ch 90, PRN).
