Jake Drew picks up third straight victory with win at Irwindale
By Colby Evans
Jake Drew dominated Saturday night’s Napa 150 at Irwindale Speedway, winning the pole and leading all 150 laps in the race. It was Drew’s 3rd straight win in the 2022 season and overall of his career.
It was win No. 40 for Sunrise Ford Racing, who have been running in the ARCA West Series for over 15 years. It was the fourth win for the organization, the most in over three years.
Drew came into the race already with a 35-point lead coming into this past race, and is leaving with a near 45 point lead in both the drivers and owner’s championships.
While it hasn’t been posted much in the media, the West Series title is slowly being taken away from the field as the dominance of Drew and Sunrise is very prominent.
Drew’s lowest finish was fifth in the season opener at Phoenix, posting a fourth-place and second-place finish at Irwindale and Bakersfield at the following races. Since then, Drew has been the victor in the last three races at Portland, Sonoma and Irwindale.
With an average car count of 24 cars this season and only five races left in the season, is there enough time for the rest of the field to close the gap on Drew?. All Drew has to do is finish fifth or better the next five races and he will claim the title.
Drew lost the title on the last lap of last year’s race at Phoenix, so it’s not shocking that Drew and Sunrise came into 2022 with vengeance and seeking revenge and they’re showing it this season
In racing the quote still stands: “It’s never over until it’s over” and although Drew has a hefty lead, anything can happen in racing and the champion isn’t crowned until the checkered flag has flown at Phoenix.
Watch Jake Drew potentially continue his season dominance and his other competitors at the next race for the ARCA West Series is just over one month away at Evergreen Speedway on August 20th, live on FloRacing.
