Joey Gase matches NY Racing Team’s best Cup finish
DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. — Joey Gase landed a solid 20th-place finish for NY Racing Team, matching the organization’s best finish in the NASCAR Cup Series.

It comes in NY Racing Team’s fourth start of 2024 and Gase’s first start of the year.
The organization has struggled to get its program going since returning to the Cup Series this year. They had a DNQ at the Daytona 500, followed by a lack of speed at Las Vegas and mechanical issues at Charlotte and Pocono.
With no practice in his No. 44 Chevrolet, Gase ran just his qualifying lap, which was over a second slower than the polesitter than the No. 34 car of Michael McDowell. Like in February, the No. 44 car didn’t show pace in single-car speeds, but there was hope that the car could stay in the draft.
As the race began, Gase lost the draft, especially in stage one when he fell a lap down. He kept catching up after avoiding multiple cautions, including two cautions for a car flipping over. Most importantly, he kept the car clean.
After an overtime restart, Gase brought home his car in 20th, by far NY Racing Team’s best result of 2024. It also ties the organization’s best NASCAR Cup Series finish that Greg Biffle earned at Atlanta in March 2022.
NY Racing Team hopes to keep this momentum as they plan on entering at least one more race this year. It could be more if sponsorship works out.
