Justin Allgaier earns long-awaited O’Reilly Series Pocono Win

LONG POND, PA. — After leading his previous eight straight NASCAR O’Reilly Auto Parts Series races at Pocono, Justin Allgaier finally captures his first win at the track in the Millertech 250 presented by KOA.

This is already his fifth victory of the season and now his 33rd O’Reilly Series win overall.

Alongside Denny Hamlin, the now 40-year-old continued the “old guys win” narrative of late after winning in true Justin Allgaier dominating fashion.

Allgaier started fourth and went onto lead a race-high 35 laps today during a Pocono race that never got too far along without a wreck.

The series nearly saw their first overtime finish of the season but Allgaier and the field were able to reach the white flag before anymore chaos ensued.

He bested the rookie Brent Crews, who won the second stage, and Cup Series regular William Byron in the end. But those two were not the two sitting second and third as the field restarted with two lap remaining.

Sam Mayer, who led 14 laps, looked primed to contend for his first win of the season before his teammate, Sheldon Creed, pulled out of line to go for the win.

Haas Factory Team failed to deliver in the end though Mayer had no love lost for his group. “I don’t blame a teammate for going out of line there” said Mayer.

However, both achieved top five finishes with Mayer coming home just ahead of Creed in fourth and fifth respectively.

Anthony Alfredo captured his best finish of the season in sixth for his third top ten result of the season. He and all of Viking Motorsports brought competitive speed to Pennsylvania this weekend.

Rajah Caruth crossed the line in seventh. Caruth put together a solid day in his Jordan Anderson Racing No. 32. His strong but subtle top ten continues his hopes of running for the Chase.

The events polesitter, Brandon Jones, finished eighth. Finally, the JRM teammates Connor Zilisch and Carson Kvapil rounded out the top ten.

Notable Events and Results

Ten cautions underlined the tone of the event and the carnage started early. To much of Allgaier’s luck, the other two top-three championship contenders wrecked after only the first corner of the event.

Corey Day chased his HendrickCars.com No. 17 high on the exit of the first turn and failed to recover. He spun straight down the track and into oncoming traffic where Jesse Love, who started mid-pack in 21st, clipped the out of control rookie resulting in both of their retirements from the race.

Cole Custer did not make a qualifying run after his trouble during the lone practice session. He rebounded well in the race to finish 12th.

Jeremy Clements tied Kenny Wallace with his 547th start in the series by finishing 16th.

Finally, Nick Sanchez returned to the series in the Peterson Motorsports No. 87 in place of Austin Green and finished 23rd after tapping the wall during the middle of the event.
