Kaden Honeycutt dominates in delayed Truck race win at Richmond

RICHMOND, Va. — Kaden Honeycutt dominates in his delayed win in the Black’s Tire 250 presented by BTS Rewards at Richmond Raceway.

This is his second win of the season and the second of his career in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series.

The newly announced father-to-be was not to be denied at Richmond in the night or the day.

Honeycutt qualified on the outside pole before rain canceled Friday’s race. The next day, he quickly took the lead from polesitter Shane van Gisbergen.

From there, he led wire-to-wire to win the first stage. Then, doubled down on stage wins by dominating the second stage as well.

The only wrench that was thrown into his race was when Stewart Friesen found the outside wall with 35 laps remaining.

The only caution for incident occurred during the final pit cycle. But, Honeycutt had worked his way back to the lead lap which saved his race.

He disposed of the new race leader Grant Enfinger on the ensuing restart. He leaped out to over a two second lead but his teammate Corey Heim encroached to deny him from a win once more.

The laps ran out for Heim and Honeycutt broke through to achieve his first oval win of his Truck Series career.

Honeycutt is already locked into the Chase with one race to go from New Hampshire in a week’s time.

He officially cannot drop lower than second in the final regular season standings and, theoretically, can still win the regular season championship with a Layne Riggs DNF and a win for himself.

The Top Ten & Notable Results

Corey Heim nearly played spoiler on Honeycutt once again. This time, the two-time NASCAR Cup Series winner would be denied to finish in second place.

Christian Eckes ran inside the top ten all race long and surged in the final stage to finish third.

Shane van Gisbergen delivered another fourth-placed finish at a short track in the series.

Then, Grant Enfinger played his fuel strategy to leapfrog Honeycutt for the lead. He restarted on the point with 28 laps remaining but was unable to hold off for the win. He will take a great points day to round out the top five.

Jake Garcia qualified tenth and outlasted his bubble-battle mate in Stewart Friesen to finish sixth.

Stewart Friesen crashed with 35 to go which complicated not only the race but his chase chances as well. The bubble driver ran on the lead lap throughout the duration of the race but the late wreck had him DNF in 36th.

As the only driver to DNF, he now sits 20 points below the Chase cutline (Tyler Ankrum) with one race remaining.

Chandler Smith ran inside the top five but the final caution rendered him down to a seventh-placed finish.

Tristian McKee finished eighth in his series debut. The 16-year-old officially tied Chandler Smith for the highest finishing 16-year-old debutant in the series. He also became the second youngest driver to ever compete in the series behind Casey Atwood.

Gio Ruggiero was a lap down in the first stage of the event but he showed championship-level grit to claw his way back to the top ten in ninth.

Daniel Hemric rounded out the top ten. Finally, Ty Majeski’s run-in with Corey Heim resulted in a flat tire that cost him two laps. Unable to fully recover, Majeski finished 19th, one lap down.
