Rockingham not hosting any NASCAR national series races in 2027

Promoter Track Enterprises announced that Rockingham Speedway will not be on any NASCAR national series’ schedule in 2027.

The track the past two years has hosted the NASCAR O’Reilly Auto Parts Series, the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series, and ARCA Menards Series East.

The historic North Carolina track hosted a standalone Easter weekend for the series’. Large crowds attended each of the races, and both O’Reilly races in 2025 and 2026 sold out in the grandstands.

Despite the successful return, the International Hot Rod Association (IHRA), which owns the track has run into financial trouble recently. The IHRA bought the track on Dec 31. 2025 and announced plans for more track restorations and events.

However, the IHRA under owner Darryl Cuttell has run into financial issues related to missed payments from companies owned by billionaire Elon Musk. Both Musk’s SpaceAI and Cuttell’s Darana Hybrid have countersued each other.

There have also been allegations of payments not going towards teams and employees as well. The IHRA Stock Car Series also suspended their inaugural season due to the trouble.

Track Enterprises however, has maintained that they will work to bring racing to Rockingham in the future amidst the current uncertainty.

“While we’re disappointed that NASCAR won’t be racing at Rockingham in 2027, we remain optimistic about the future and look forward to exploring opportunities to bring racing back in the future” said Track Enterprises President, Bob Sargent.

Track Enterprises intends to bring racing back to Rockingham in the future. However, fans and drivers will have to wait until 2028 at the earliest.
