Kaulig Racing’s Chris Rice and Ross Chastain talk 2020 plans
KANSAS CITY, Kan — This week, Kaulig Racing announced Ross Chastain as the full-time driver for the No. 10 Xfinity Series Chevrolet but team manager Chris Rice discussed Friday the third Xfinity entry (No. 16)’s plans for next season.
A.J. Allmendinger will race the #16 at road courses and Martinsville, and the No. 16 will race at the superspeedways with another driver TBA. The Martinsville deal came together via Allmendinger’s wish.
“We were in victory lane in Charlotte and A.J. is like, ‘I just want one thing,'” Rice recalled, “He wants to run Martinsville so we will probably run him in the 16 car at Martinsville.”
Allmendinger will be a teammate to Chastain, who, in 2019 alone, has made 30 starts in Cup for Premium Motorsports, 17 in Xfinity for JD Motorsports and Kaulig, and 20 in Trucks for Niece Motorsports. Chastain indicated Friday that he will continue to race a variety of series in 2020, but his Cup and Truck plans are TBA.
