Layne Riggs sweeps practice and qualifying at Martinsville
MARTINSVILLE, Va. — If practice and qualifying are any indication, Layne Riggs is going to be hard to beat in Friday night’s NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series race at Martinsville Speedway.

Riggs will start on the pole for Friday’s Slim Jim 200 NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series race at Martinsville. He also posted the fastest time in practice and had the fastest 10-lap average of any driver in the session.
In qualifying, Riggs was the only driver run a lap in the 19.4-second range. In practice, he paced the field with a time of 20.102 seconds around the half-mile paperclip and had the fastest 10-lap average of any driver by 0.2 mph – running about a half a tenth of a second faster per lap on average.
Riggs needs to win or have a strong performance in Friday night’s cutoff race. He is six points below the cutline for the Championship 4.

Talladega winner Gio Ruggiero will start alongside Riggs on the front row. Ruggiero and Andres Perez are the only non-playoff drivers starting in the top-10. Perez starts 10th.
Ty Majeski, Corey Heim, Kaden Honeycutt, Tyler Ankrum, Rajah Caruth, Grant Enfinger and Daniel Hemric will roll off third through, ninth, respectively. From Riggs back to Hemric, all of the playoff drivers qualified within each two tenths of each other.
Friday night at Martinsville is the final race before the Championship 4 is set. Here are the playoff standings heading into it:
- Corey Heim IN
- Rajah Caruth (3096 points) +14 to the cutline
- Tyler Ankrum (3090) +8
- Kaden Honeycutt (3087) +5
- Ty Majeski (3082) -5
- Layne Riggs (3081) -6
- Daniel Hemric (3055) -32
- Grant Enfinger (3047) -40
