STAMFORD, Conn. — NBC Sports named Leigh Diffey as the lap-by-lap announcer for its NASCAR Cup Series coverage through the end of the season.

Diffey will call the Coke Zero Sugar 400 this Saturday at Daytona International Speedway on NBC and Peacock. He will continue in that role for the rest of the season, all the way to the November 10 championship race at Phoenix Raceway.

Diffey going full-time in the NASCAR Cup Series booth marks a major shift. Although Diffey has called some Cup Series races for NBC Sports, that was on the basis of filling in for Rick Allen, who he is now replacing in the booth.

According to NBC Sports, Rick Allen will continue as the lap-by-lap announcer for the NASCAR Xfinity Series. He will call the races at Daytona, Darlington, Atlanta and Watkins Glen for NBC Sports. Then, he will take on the same role with The CW when they broadcast the final eight races of the season.

Meanwhile, Kevin Lee will call the final four NTT IndyCar Series races for NBC Sports.
