Lightning hands Layne Riggs Truck Series Bristol Pole

BRISTOL, Tenn. — A lightning delay has decided the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series Pole for the UNOH 250 presented by Ohio Logistics to Layne Riggs.

This will be the sixth start from the top spot and his second consecutive one in the series.

Before the lightning delay led to the ultimate cancellation of the session, Jake Garcia had the time to beat.

Now, the twice-defending winner of this race will have the best start to make it three straight.

The current Chase leader and regular season champion will have his biggest rival to his title right beside him. Kaden Honeycutt will look to make it two series wins in a row from second.

Then, Riggs’ Front Row Motorsports teammate Chandler Smith will start directly behind him in third.

ARCA Menards Series standout Tristian McKee will make his second career series start from fourth in the Spire Motorsports No. 77. He will have to go to the rear at the start of the event due to his practice issues.

Halmar Friesen Racing occupies the third row. Team boss Stewart Friesen will start fifth with William Sawalich coming down from the NASCAR O’Reilly Auto Parts Series to drive their No. 62 entry from sixth.

Daniel Hemric will start the Chase with a seventh place starting position. Then fellow Chase driver and short track ace Ty Majeski will start besides him in eighth.

Justin Haley and Grant Enfinger round out the top ten drivers via the NASCAR qualifying metric from ninth and tenth.

Notable Entrants

Due to how the lineup was set, many Chase drivers will start outside the top ten. Tyler Ankrum starts the highest of the remaining four in the drivers Chase and the remaining seven in the owners Chase.

He will start 13th alongside Ben Rhodes from 14th. Gio Ruggiero will start three rows behind them from 19th with Christian Eckes another full row behind him from 21st.

Connor Mosack will kick off his run to an owners championship in the Spire Motorsports No. 7 entry in 22nd. Then

Bayley CurrEy returns to the series for the first time this season. He jumps out of his new car chief role at Tricon Garage to behind the wheel of the No. 5 truck. He will start 16th.

Regan Smith returned to the Truck Series for the first time in a long time. He jumped into the RAM “Free Agent” No. 25 entry to compete against his fellow NASCAR on FOX reporters who have already ran that ride earlier in the season.

He will start 23rd and has some work to do to outrun Clint Bowyers 29th-placed finish at Dover.

Caden Kvapil, the 19-year-old younger brother of NASCAR O’Reilly Auto Parts Series driver Carson, will make his series debut in the No. 76 Freedom Enterprise entry from 34th.

37 truckers entered the weekend and only 36 of them could make the main event.

Despite the cancellation, the lone driver who did not qualify was Justin Carroll. He failed to attempt a qualifying lap and was the driver who needed to qualify in on speed prior to the attempt anyways.
