With Ty Gibbs’ win Sunday (April 15) in the Food City 500, the NASCAR Cup Series has now seen at least one new winner in each of the last 11 seasons.

Prior to Gibbs, Josh Berry was the most-recent first-time winner with his victory at Las Vegas Motor Speedway in March of 2025.

In the Next Gen era of the Cup Series (2022 through present), 2022 saw the most first-time winners at five.

Across its 78-year history, only 10 seasons did not feature a new driver winning: 1972, 1976, 1992, 1993, 2004, 2008, 2010, 2012, 2013, and 2015.

The full list of new first-time winners by season can be accessed here.

Current winless drivers in the NASCAR Cup Series who are competing full-time are Ty Dillon, Todd Gilliland, Noah Gragson, Riley Herbst, Carson Hocevar, John Hunter Nemechek, Ryan Preece, Zane Smith, Cody Ware, and Connor Zilisch.
