NASCAR driver John Andretti passes away

Two-time NASCAR Cup Series winner John Andretti has passed away, aged 56.

“With the heaviest of hearts we share that John Andretti has today lost his battle with cancer,” the Andretti Autosport Twitter social media account said in a statement.

“…We will forever carry with us John’s genuine spirit of helping others first and himself second.”

Andretti was initially diagnosed with Stage 4 colon cancer in 2017.

In NASCAR’s primer series, Andretti drove for owners and teams including Tex Powell, Billy Hagan, Richard Petty, Michael Kranefuss, Cale Yarborough and others.

Andretti competed in 393 Cup Series races between 1993 and 2010, amassing two poles, two wins, 13 top-five finishes and 37 top-10 finishes.
