NASCAR penalizes Ty Majeski for illegal tire modification

NASCAR penalized Ty Majeski and his team for an alleged modification to a tire found on his truck at The Milwaukee Mile.

Majeski and his No. 98 team will lose five playoff points. Since the playoffs started, he and the team have earned seven playoff points.

The sanctioning body hit crew chief Joe Shear with a four-race suspension and a $25,000 fine.

Officials also docked Majeski 75 championship points. However, he is locked into the next round of the playoffs with his win at IRP.

A NASCAR penalty report indicates Majeski’s team modified the valve stem hardware of the truck. That violates rulebook section 14.16.A, which states:

  • Any device, modification, or procedure to the tire or wheel, including the valve stem hardware, that is used to release pressure, beyond normal pressure adjustments, from the tire and/or inner shield, will not be permitted.

In 2015, NASCAR docked Ryan Newman and his team 75 points for a similar violation. They also hit crew chief Luke Lambert with a 6-race suspension and a $125,000 fine.
