Perez the champion and Sawalich the victor in ARCA finale at Toledo
TOLEDO, Ohio — William Sawalich earned his ninth win of the 2024 ARCA Menards Series season, while Andres Perez de Lara clinched the driver’s championship in the season finale Saturday at Toledo Speedway.
All Perez had to do was start the Owens Corning 200 to win the title. Despite having no wins and becoming the first winless champion in over 40 years, Perez managed 11 Top-5 finishes and 17 Top-10s with only 3 DNFs in his No. 2 car. Rev Racing teammate Lavar Scott finished second in points, 40 points back.
Sawalich made his 14th start of the season Saturday. He earned nine wins and 13 Top-5s — all top-10s — and clinched the ARCA Menards Series East title. Joe Gibbs Racing also clinched its third owner’s title in the last four years.
To get there, there was plenty of attrition in the finale go-around for all of them this season. The finale had several crashes and mechanical failures. The No. 22 of Amber Balcaen had four different accidents during race. The final, race-ending incident resulted in her car getting stuffed into the Styrofoam barriers.
Underdog team Fast Track Racing scored two Top-10 finishes. The No. 11 of Cody Dennison finished eighth. The No. 10 of Willie Mullins finished ninth.
Both William Sawalich and Andres Perez de Lara are expected to move on from ARCA in 2025. Neither driver has officially announced their plans yet.
Behind Perez and Scott in points were Kris Wright, Toni Breidinger and Christian Rose.
The ARCA Menards Series returns February 15, 2025, at Daytona International Speedway.
