Sam Mayer disqualified from Talladega Xfinity race

TALLADEGA, Ala. — NASCAR officials disqualified Sam Mayer from Saturday’s United Rentals 250 at Talladega Superspeedway after his car failed post-race inspection.

The ride height on Mayer’s car was too low, according to NASCAR. The disqualification will take him from a 16th-place finish and three stage points scored in the first stage — 24 points earned — to 38th and only one point scored.

Before the disqualification, Mayer was 10 points above the cutline. Now, he is 13 points below the cutline, heading to the Charlotte Roval where he is the defending winner.

  12. Parker Kligerman: 2049 (-26)

  3. Cole Custer: 2095 (+37)

  8. AJ Allmendinger: 2065 (+7)
  9. Justin Allgaier: 2058 (-7 points to the cutline)

  12. Parker Kligerman: 2049 (-16)

The disqualification locked Chandler Smith into the Round of 8 on points, meaning he won’t need to worry about getting eliminated at the Charlotte Roval.
