Petty GMS unveils Jimmie Johnson’s new number, new team name

In 2023, Jimmie Johnson will drive a No. 84 Chevrolet as he joins Petty-GMS – now under the name Legacy Motor Club.

Johnson made the announcement Wednesday on NBC’s “TODAY” show. He will drive the No. 84 to go alongside Noah Gragson’s No. 42 and Erik Jones’ No. 43.

The name change reflects Johnson’s stake in the organization and Johnson joining Richard Petty as the other prominent figure with the team.

Johnson has 84 NASCAR wins, 83 in Cup and 1 in Xfinity. The Daytona 500 will be his maiden voyage in a Carvana-sponsored No. 84 with other races TBD.
