DOVER, Del. — Sheldon Creed led 41 laps and nearly eeked out at a top-10 in an adventurous NASCAR Xfinity Series race at Dover.

Creed took the lead on lap 10 and led 24 laps. Then, he sustained splitter damage after running over some debris.

In stage two, Creed drove back into the top 10 and finished 7th.

Then, in the final stage, Creed ran into trouble again on lap 100.

Going into turn three, Justin Allgaier and Sammy Smith sandwiched Creed in the middle. Someone had to give but no one did and Smith bumped Creed, who then spun.

Remarkably, no one hit Creed’s car as it sat idle in the middle of turn three.

When he pitted, the team put on new tires and further repaired the splitter damage.

The race went green again on lap 105 and Creed jumped from 29th to 11th within 57 laps.

Creed stayed out and led 17 more laps. His team banked on a possible caution but he pitted with 10 to go when that didn’t happen.

Sheldon Creed finished 11th overall. He sits seventh in the NASCAR Xfinity Series points, currently locked into a playoff spot by 66 points.
