SVG: ‘These races are hard to win’
Shane Van Gisbergen was one lap away from his second NASCAR Cup Series victory, ultimately finishing second to Chris Buescher Sunday at Watkins Glen International.

Van Gisbergen took the lead from Buescher in NASCAR Overtime after starting directly behind race leader Buescher entering Turn 1.
“I gave him a little bump to get the spot, and I knew it was going to come back,” SVG said.
Van Gisbergen led the two back to the Start/Finish line for his lone lap led of the race, the white flag lap, keeping Buescher at bay by a couple of car lengths.
“So, I was just pushing the entries and trying to get away and just made an error,” Van Gisbergen added.
Then, in the bus stop, Van Gisbergen’s No. 16 clipped the grass after entering the initial turn wide, allowing for Buescher to close in and make the pass on SVG in the carousel turn after contact between the two.
Van Gisbergen had to settle for second place.

“Pissed because these races are hard to win, and we have had a rough run in the Cup Series this year,” Van Gisbergen said. “The WeatherTech Camaro was really good, fastest car all day, and it just didnโt work out.”
The finish was his highest of the season and his first Top-5 and Top-10 finish in eight Cup Series starts this year.
