Team effort earns Joey Logano his first NASCAR All-Star Race pole

Joey Logano will start on the pole for the NASCAR All-Star Race for the first time in 14 starts thanks to a team effort in qualifying.

Logano and his crew put together an overall time of 89.754 seconds. They were the only team to post a qualifying time under 90 seconds.

The format required Logano and the 16 other qualifiers to run a full lap and pit on lap two. Then, after pitting, they had to speed back to the start-finish line. The fastest two qualifiers earned starting spots 1-2 for the All-Star Race (until the Heat Races were rained out).

Brad Keselowski and his crew put themselves on the front row with a time of 90.140 seconds. His crew was second-fastest in the Pit Crew Challenge.

No one could top Christopher Bell’s crew who reeled off the fastest pit stop. Bell was a little slower on the track, posting third.

The only team faster than Logano’s team was William Byron’s team. Byron’s team posted a time of 89.542 seconds. However, Byron received a 10-second penalty for speeding on pit road, knocking him back to 13th.

Kyle Busch and Chase Elliott posted 14th and 15th, with times of 99.788 seconds and 102.518 seconds respectively. They each received a 10-second penalty for speeding.

Ryan Blaney received not only a 10-second penalty for speeding but also a 10-second penalty for a commitment violation entering pit road, knocking his team’s time to 109.89 seconds in 17th.

Ricky Stenhouse Jr.’s team was 16th with a time of 103.314 seconds after a jack mishap on the left side of the car.

Kevin Harvick and Kyle Larson’s team posted the 12th fastest time (96.334 seconds) after an issue on pit road by the team.
