The spotter silly season in NASCAR. What to know
While there have been changes atop the pit boxes and in the driver’s seats, the most change has taken place among spotters in NASCAR.

Here are the spotter changes to know for the 2024 Cup Series season:
- Noah Gragson: Andy Houston (was with Ryan Preece, was Joel Edmonds)
- Zane Smith: Josh Williams (was with Ryan Blaney)
- Ryan Blaney: Tim Fedewa (was with Kevin Harvick)
- Riley Herbst/Kaz Grala/No. 15 team: Brent Wentz (new)
- Carson Hocevar: Tyler Green (was with Harrison Burton)
- Chase Elliott: Trey Poole (new)
- John Hunter Nemechek: Ryan Blanchard (new)
- Ryan Preece: Tony Raines (was with FRM #36, AM #25, CR7 #97)
- Josh Berry: Eddie D’Hondt (was with Chase Elliott)
- No. 16 team/Josh Williams: Joe White (new; was Frank Deiny Jr)
- Daniel Hemric: Frank Deiny Jr (was with No. 16 team)
- Harrison Burton: Jason Jarrett (was with No. 31 team)
- Justin Haley/No. 51: Chris Osborne (was Steve Barkdoll; was with Beard No. 62, Parker Retzlaff in Xfinity)
- Michael McDowell: Michael Fisher (new; was Clayton Hughes)
Hughes spotted for Grala in their Bluegreen Vacations Duel and Sunday in the Daytona 500.
Here are the spotters for the other open entries in the Daytona 500:
- Jimmie Johnson: Earl Barban (longtime spotter for Johnson)
- David Ragan: Brian Keselowski (spotted for brother Brad at New Hampshire last year)
- Anthony Alfredo: Ron Lewis Jr. (longtime spotter for Casey Mears)
The Daytona 500 is set to go green Sunday just after 3 p.m. ET (Broadcast: FOX Sports 1, MRN, SiriusXM NASCAR Radio).

A Twin Valley, MN, native, Fjeld became a motorsports fan at just three years old (first race was the 2002 Pennsylvania 500). He worked as a contributor and writer for TRE from 2010-18. Since then, he has stepped up and covered 24 NASCAR race weekends and taken on a larger role with TRE. He became the co-owner and managing editor in 2023 and has guided the site to massive growth in that time.
Fjeld has covered a wide array of stories and moments over the years, including Kevin Harvick's final Cup Series season, the first NASCAR national series disqualification in over 50 years, Shane van Gisbergen's stunning win in Chicago and the first Cup Series race at Road America in 66 years – as well as up-and-coming drivers' stories and stories from inside the sport, like the tech it takes for Hendrick Motorsports to remain a top-tier team.
Currently, he resides in Albuquerque, N.M., where he works for KOB 4, an NBC station. He works as a digital producer and does on-air reports.
