The inaugural Bowman Gray event will join Canadian Tire as one of the series’ new standalone venues for 2027.

Following renovations and renewed interest, NASCAR sent the Cup Series for the Clash to Bowman Gray for the past two years. NASCAR and the city of Winston-Salem signing a five-year contract for a NASCAR national series to race at the track. As a result, the Truck Series will take that place for 2027. Only this time, it will be a points race.

The race will occur on Friday, Aug. 20. It will be the penultimate race before the end of the regular season. To celebrate the announcement, Rajah Caruth did a burnout in a Spire Motorsports truck during opening ceremonies Saturday night.

While NASCAR has not confirmed a format or field size for the race, they have confirmed that there won’t be a full field of 36 trucks for the main event. The main event for the Clash at Bowman Gray had a field size of 23 cars. The biggest field for an ARCA East race at the track was 27 cars.

NASCAR similarly had to shorten the field for a Truck Series race when Eldora joined the schedule. In 2013 and 2014, the field was shortened to 30 trucks for the main event from 36.

When Cup cars ran in February, track regulars like Burt Myers and Tim Brown attempted to make the main event. Could we see more Bowman Gray regulars enter the Truck race?

With the track having a reputation of rough racing, the race will be a must watch for fans.
