Two INDYCAR teams handed post-qualifying penalties at Indianapolis
SPEEDWAY, Ind. — Two NTT INDYCAR Series teams have been handed post-Indianapolis 500 qualifying penalties that reshape the starting grid for Sunday.

The entries of No. 4 of A.J. Foyt Enterprises of Caio Collet and No. 24 of Dreyer & Reinbold Racing of Jack Harvey will give up their starting positions and begin the race at the rear of the field.
INDYCAR officiating caught both teams in violation of modifying single-sourced parts.
They made modifications modifications to the Dallara-supplied Energy Management System (EMS) covers and cover-to-A-arm mounting points with unapproved hardware.
According to the INDYCAR rule-book, those parts cannot be tampered with. The exact violations are stated below.
- Rule 14.12.1.1. EMS must be used as supplied by Dallara and approved by INDYCAR.
- Rule 14.12.1.6. EMS covers may only be attached with the supplied hardware and Helicopter Tape.
As a result, both entries have forfeited their qualification times and pit selections. They will line up at the back in order of their entrant points.
Therefore, Collet will now start 32nd because he has run every race so far this season while Harvey takes 33rd due to the entries first start coming here.
That also means Collet will forfeit the points he gained for originally qualifying inside the top twelve. Scott Dixon and Rinus VeeKay will slide up the order and gain an additional point each for doing so.
Takuma Sato will now start inside the top twelve on the fourth row as the “old row” loses a member.
Both entries have the opportunity to contest the imposition of the penalties detailed in the review and appeal procedures of the NTT INDYCAR SERIES rulebook. Though, both penalties are fairly black and white as similar penalties were handed out to teams here last season.
