Ty Gibbs posts best Cup Series qualifying effort

LAS VEGAS — Ty Gibbs will have his best career NASCAR Cup Series start this Sunday at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.
Gibbs No. 54 Toyota posted a lap time of 29.262 seconds (184.54 average MPH) during the second round of qualifying Saturday, good enough for the fourth-fastest lap time among the competition.
Gibbs’ previous best start was sixth last October at Homestead-Miami Speedway during his interim fill-in duties for Kurt Busch.
Polesitter Joey Logano will lead the field to the green flag with William Byron to his outside. Ryan Blaney, Ty Gibbs and Kyle Busch round out the Top-5 qualifiers.
