van Gisbergen converts his O’Reilly Series pole to the victory at Sonoma
SONOMA, Calif. — Shane van Gisbergen converts his NASCAR O’Reilly Auto Parts Series pole to the victory in the Pit Boss Food Maxx 250 at Sonoma Raceway.
This is his sixth career series victory and his second of the season and at Sonoma.

Victory lane and road courses are synonymous with Shane van Gisbergen and JR Motorsports. In the series, the team has now reached 20 wins on the track type as they get back on the board after Austin Hill snapped their 11 consecutive wins on the track type.
van Gisbergen approached this weekend with vengeance after his DNF in the NASCAR Cup Series race by the hands of Hill last week.
He dominated the O’Reilly Series by leading the practice session, grabbing the pole, and leading 66 of the 79 laps in his win.
Connor Zilisch had to start in the rear after his tire seeped flat during his ualifying run. He made uick work of the field and found himself in the top ten at the beginning of the second stage.
Due to his strategy, he stayed out to capture the stage win. The stage win was his 16th in his O’Reilly Series career.
Their domination yielded a 14 second gap between the two down to third place. The O’Reilly Series field can rest easy knowing today was the final stop at a road course for a little bit.
Notable Results
Brent Crews finished third as the best of the full-time drivers. He was able to jump back into the Chase spots after his good weekend.
Yet again, Viking Motorsports delivered a career-best weekend for the organization. Their duo qualified inside the top five and finished there to give the team their first ever double top five finish.
Anthony Alfredo finished fourth. He won his first career stage win in the first stage and the first for the organization as well. Parker Retzlaff delivered another solid top five performance to continue to maintain his positive gap to the cutline.
Carson Kvapil delivered a top ten for his final outing in the DGM Racing No. 91. He will switch back to his usual JRM No. 1 next weekend as the series returns to Chicagoland.
Corey Day had a less eventful weekend at Sonoma than he had at the Naval Base. He crossed the finish line in seventh.
Sam Mayer, Jesse Love, and Sheldon Creed rounded out the top ten as they look to lock themselves in the the Chase in the coming weeks.
Taylor Gray ran fourth at the white flag but ran out of gas shortly after. He limped around to finish 29th after his final lap was disallowed when teammate Brandon Jones helped push him across the line.
Ross Chastain was the only other Cup Series regular in the field. His final start of the season with Jordan Anderson Racing ended 29 laps into the event with mechanical issue.
