Almirola to retire after 2022 NASCAR Cup Series season
CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Aric Almirola will be stepping aside from full-time NASCAR Cup Series competition following the 2022 season.
Almirola made the announcement in a video uploaded Jan. 10 to YouTube. The 37-year-old driver cited an interest in spending more time with his family as a primary reason for making 2022 his 11th and final full-time season.
No announcement has been made for who will take over the No. 10 Stewart-Haas Racing Ford in 2023.
Ryan Preece was signed Jan. 6 by Stewart-Haas Racing to serve as a reserve driver in 2022.
Almirola has earned three career Cup wins, 26 Top 5 finishes, 84 Top 10 finishes, three poles and 893 laps led in 388 starts and five career playoff appearances in 10 full-time seasons.
Almirola has also earned three career NASCAR XFINITY Series wins and two NASCAR Camping World Truck Series wins.
