INDYCAR’s Snap-On Makers and Fixers 250 postponed to Sunday 7 a.m. Eastern

WEST ALLIS, Wisc. — The NTT INDYCAR Series’ Snap-On Makers and Fixers 250 from the Milwaukee Mile has been postponed mid-race to 7 a.m. Eastern on Sunday.

Pato O’Ward currently leads after 90 of the 250 scheduled laps.

The rain crept in directly after driver introductions. While the light rain passed through with minimal loss of track time, the precedent was set for the afternoon.

INDYCAR was able to run 63 green flag laps before the second wave of heavier rain trickled in. A further 27 paced laps under yellow conditions brought the field to where they stand now just over a third of the way in.

Then nearly two hours of rain and the setting sun capped the hopes of a completed event today. INDYCAR made the decision to postpone the event to tomorrow morning as a result.

What you Should Know

A few questions popped up. First and foremost were the fans.

INDYCAR president Doug Boles stated in the immediate press conference that the fans who had tickets for the first race of the double header would be honored for tomorrow morning.

Furthermore, they will be allowed to stay on the grounds. Then, transition to general admission seating if their seats are filled for the second race.

The new restart time also raised some eyebrows from the meteorologist. Rain is forecasted for the area from around 6:00 a.m. until around 9:00 a.m. local time.

A risk that INDYCAR will have to let play out again. Boles said ” [INDYCAR] will continue to play the weather by ear.”

If the first race cannot restart during the rescheduled time, INDYCAR has two options. The first is to delay the restart again before the second leg of the double header.

If the morning slot still cannot work, this race will restart three hours after the completion of the currently scheduled Snap-On Milwaukee Mile 250.

Then came the competition questions. The teams are effectively in parc-ferme which means nobody can touch, tweak, or tap the cars in anyway. This includes allowing the team who did not pit during the caution period a free chance to put new tires and fresh fuel into their vehicles.

If the race is delayed to after the second race INDYCAR president Doug Boles commented that the teams and competition “will have to see” in regard to what the teams can do to the cars.

Either way, the NTT INDYCAR Series and its fans will hopefully be treated to a lot of INDYCAR action from the Milwaukee Mile after today’s troubles.
