Kaulig Racing goes 1-2 at Mid-Ohio

Kaulig Racing went 1-2 with its drivers in Saturday’s NASCAR Xfinity Series (NXS) B&L Transport 170 at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course.

A.J. Allmendinger won his second race of 2021, finishing ahead of teammate Justin Haley.

For Allmendinger, it is his seventh career NXS win and his fifth win for Kaulig Racing. It is also Kaulig Racing’s third 1-2 finish. The team previously finished 1-2 at Daytona in July 2019 and at Talladega in October 2020.

Allmendinger led 23 laps en route to his second win of the 2021 NXS season. He came from behind after a pit penalty during the caution for Stage Two. Allmendinger drove through the field and made it up to third before a caution fell that set up a late-race restart. Allmendinger made a three-wide pass on Austin Cindric and Ty Gibbs which ended up being the winning pass of the race.

Allmendinger has been floated as a possible driver for Kaulig Racing’s NASCAR Cup Series entry in 2021 but stated that, “It’s not about contract stuff. It’s about, ‘Hey I want to be a part of this, I want to keep going.’ It’s just a great atmosphere to be around, it’s no jokes. I have no questions to them about what’s going on next year because I’m going to be a part of it.”

Haley finished second and led seven laps en route to his first Top 5 finish of 2021.

A.J. Allmendinger currently sits third in the NXS regular season points standings and Justin Haley sits seventh.

The next race for the NASCAR Xfinity Series is the June 12 Alsco Uniforms 250 at Texas Motor Speedway (4 p.m. ET; TV: FS1; Radio: PRN, SiriusXM NASCAR Radio).
