Last week in the Chase at Martinsville Speedway, the O’Reilly Series saw another change for the lead and a familiar face return to victory lane.

JR Motorsports put together another dominant display in the Chase and from the paperclip that is Martinsville. Carson Kvapil captured his third victory of the season and his first this postseason to keep his title hopes alive.

Then the former Chase leader crumbled once again at a short track. Jesse Love’s struggles opened the door for Justin Allgaier to return to the Chase lead for the first time since the second race of the Chase.

The 40-year-old, just signed a multi-year contract extension to remain in the JRM No. 7 Brandt Chevrolet and can open that new contract up in style.

Even still, five drivers enter South Florida mathematically in the fight.

Clinching Scenarios

The top three in the O’Reilly Series can each control their own destiny.

Justin Allgaier needs a total of 56 points regardless of what the other four championship eligible drivers do.

With the lead reacquired and the penultimate race of the season behind him, Allgaier can set his sights on Homestead-Miami Speedway with the best chance to earn a second career title on Saturday as the defending winner of the race.

Then, Jesse Love and Corey Day need a full 76-point perfect day in order to win the title for themselves.

Several tie breakers would ensue if either Love or Day accomplishes this, but both have the advantage over Chase leader Allgaier regardless.

Then, Carson Kvapil and Sheldon Creed both have outside chances to win their first O’Reilly Series championships. Their title hopes remain outside of their control for the most part as they need to have the top three in points to have bad days in order to win.

Overall the current Chase leader is the odds-on favorite. His 22-point gap, defending win at the track, and pertaining clinching scenario all aid in his series-best odds to win the title below.
