Ryan Blaney takes Iowa Corn 350 pole at Iowa Speedway

NEWTON, Iowa — Ryan Blaney and Team Penske set the tone early and take the NASCAR Cup Series Iowa Corn 350 pole at Iowa Speedway.

This is his third pole of the season and his 15th pole of his career.

Blaney (23.474) was one of few who gained time on their second qualifying lap as he jumped from third to the pole on his second time by.

He overtook Kyle Larson, who after his DNF at Indianapolis qualified had to within the first ten cars, by two hundredths of a second (23.492).

Now, Larson will start on the front row at Iowa Speedway for the second time in the three years the Cup Series has been at the track.

Joey Logano matched Larson’s time to the thousandth. Unfortunately for him, he will start third as he enters the weekend five positions lower in the standings.

Brad Keselowski is officially slotted for a fourth place starting spot. He will not start there though as he fenced it in the middle of turns 1 and 2 on his second lap. The team suffered terminal damage and will go to a backup car.

Tyler Reddick qualified as the highest Toyota in the field. He rounded out the top five qualifiers. Ty Gibbs will join his fellow Toyota on the third row from sixth.

Both drivers in the fourth row impressed the garage with their single-lap speed. Austin Dillon qualified in seventh for his fifth top ten start of the season. Then Connor Zilisch found some form to qualify in eighth.

His Trackhouse Racing teammate Ross Chastain will start directly behind him in ninth. Finally, Erik Jones rounds out the top ten from tenth place.

Notable Starters

Denny Hamlin qualified in 29th after he reported brake failure in his No. 11 Toyota. He will likely replace them and fall to the rear of the field for the Iowa Corn 350.

Chase Elliott suffered damage during his solo spin in the middle of turns 1 & 2 in practice. The front-left damage was minimal enough to qualify 32nd, but the team will drop to the rear of the field for repairs.

Then, his teammate William Byron will attempt to defend his Iowa win from 2025 from 19th.

Only the 36 chartered entries travelled to Iowa for the event. Therefore, all 36 cars made the field.
