Scott Dixon to end 25-year tenure at Chip Ganassi Racing

INDIANAPOLIS — Chip Ganassi Racing confirmed Scott Dixon will not return to their NTT INDYCAR Series team in 2027, ending a relationship dating back to 2002.

“Scott Dixon has recently informed the team that he will not be returning in 2027.  Scott has meant so much to CGR over the past 24 years,” CGR stated Thursday.

Reports indicate Dixon is set to join Arrow McLaren in 2027 for what will be his 27th season in major open wheel racing. In his career, he has racked up six championships and 59 wins, including the 2008 Indianapolis 500.

All of those trophies, except for one, came with Ganassi who stated they offered the open-wheel racing legend “a multi-year offer” to finish out his career with the team before departing the team.

“Together we’ve shared championships, many victories and countless moments that have helped define this organization. Because of everything we’ve accomplished together and the legacy Scott has built here, we believed it was important to give him the opportunity to finish his career at Chip Ganassi Racing,” Ganassi stated. “We respect that he’s chosen a different path and wish him nothing but continued success.

“Scott will always be a special part of this team’s history and we’re grateful for everything we’ve accomplished together.”

It’s not confirmed yet who will replace Dixon in the No. 9 car. However, the six-time champion will finish the 2027 season in the car.

“Our focus now is on finishing this season strong with the No. 9 PNC team while also preparing for the future at Chip Ganassi Racing,” Ganassi stated.

Dixon’s last win, to-date, was last season at Mid-Ohio. It was his 146th podium finish in a career with 427 starts.
