Shane van Gisbergen captures the O’Reilly Series pole at Sonoma
SONOMA, Calif. — Shane van Gisbergen continues his run of road course poles in the NASCAR O’Reilly Auto Parts Series with another pole at Sonoma Raceway.
This is his sixth career pole and his third consecutive O’Reilly Series pole at the track.

While the pole isn’t much a celebration for van Gisbergen, Chevrolet will celebrate it. This pole marked the 500th pole for the manufacturer in the series.
Rookie Brent Crews will start alongside the Cup Series driver in second. Crews looks to rebound after Naval Base Coronado where the man to beat was bested when he was involved in a crash.
Taylor Gray jumped from tenth to third in the final minutes of the second group. He will start alongside Anthony Alfredo in the second row.
Parker Retzlaff will start fifth as Viking motorsports puts both entries into the top five for the second event in a row in only their second year.
Corey Day led the lone practice session and qualified in sixth. Nearly any result this weekend would be a rebound from Coronado Island.
Some O’Reilly Series veterans fill the remaining starting positions inside the top ten. The regular season standing leaders of Jesse Love and Justin Allgaier will line up together on the fourth row.
Then two proven O’Reilly Series road course winners comprise the fifth row. Sam Mayer starts ninth and last weeks winner, Austin Hill, finalize the top ten from tenth.
Notable Entries & News
Ross Chastain will make his final start of the season the Jordan Anderson Racing all-star No. 32. He will lineup in 14th but his other Cup Series teammate was not so fortunate.
Connor Zilisch will start from the rear after one of his tires slowly leaked into a flat during his qualifying run.
Josh Bilicki and Erik Jones’ spotter Will Rodgers will start 20th for Young’s Motorsports. He will be able to spot Bilicki into turn one as the Wisconsin driver starts just a row ahead in 18th.
Austin Green suffered a heavy crash during the lone practice session. His car had a massive break failure as he headed into the turn 11 hairpin which resulted in a huge impact into the tire barrier. He will go to a backup car and start from the rear tomorrow.
Finally, Brad Perez did not qualify due to a mechanical problem. But he didn’t have to worry about qualifying because all 38 entrants made the race.
