Truck Series will race at St. Petersburg again in 2027
The NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series will race again at the St. Petersburg Street Course in Florida for a second time in 2027.
Their race weekend will once again be held alongside the INDYCAR Series as part of their annual season-opening weekend. The Truck Series race will prelude the INDYCAR Series on Saturday, March 6.
The return continues the recent road course trend in the series. They hit a record high four road courses on the schedule in 2026 and look to continue the trend into 2027.
St. Petersburg became the first ever street course in series history then Naval Base Coronado became the second in June.
Current Truck Series point-leader Layne Riggs, won the inaugural race after leading 41 out of 80 laps.
Multiple drivers with notable backgrounds also took part in the race.
Three-time Indy 500 winner, four-time Indycar champion, and 2008 24 hours of Daytona winner Dario Franchitti drove the No. 1 Toyota for Tricon Garage. He ran in the top 10 for most of the race, but fell to 27th due to steering issues.
Six-time Indycar race winner and FOX Sports color commentator James Hinchcliffe, also raced in the No. 77 Chevrolet for Spire Motorsports. While Hinchcliffe had multiple run-ins throughout the race, he was able to climb up to finish 10th at the end.
Three-time IMSA champion Colin Braun also made his first start in the Truck Series in 15 years. He finished in ninth.
The Truck race was viewed as a success, and as a result, NASCAR and IndyCar will have another year of crossovers. With how it went, more notable drivers could run a truck on the 1.8 mile street course next year.
